Working hours:
Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am-5:30 pm (30 min lunch break included), and Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm (30 min lunch break included). All shifts are according to the New York time zone
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and code medical records for accuracy and completeness using CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines
- Ensure coding aligns with payer policies and ASC-specific reimbursement rules
- Identify and resolve coding discrepancies, documentation gaps, and potential coding conflicts
- Assign appropriate modifiers and ensure compliant coding for orthopedics, pain management, GI, Gynecology, and other specialties as applicable
- Perform a query as needed to clarify documentation with clinicians to maximize optimal reimbursement
- Maintain high-quality standards and adhere to coding compliance, privacy, and security protocols
- Communicate coding issues and justification clearly to internal teams
- Generate end day report
Requirements:
- CPC certification (CPC, CPC-A is acceptable with plan for certification consolidation; must be current)
- 2+ years of medical coding experience in a healthcare setting (hospital, ASC, multi-specialty practice, or outsourcing) in the USA
- Proficient knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to maintain high-quality standards under deadlines
- Experience coding in a practice management/EHR environment and capable of handling remote work setup
- Specific experience in Orthopedics, Pain Management, Gastroenterology (GI), and Gynecology
- Prior experience coding ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) cases
- Additional certifications (e.g., CCS, CPUR, RHIT) or ongoing credentialing in medical coding
- Multispecialty coding experience beyond the preferred areas
Experience and Competencies:
- Proficiency with at least one major EHR/Practice Management system (examples: Epic, Cerner, NextGen, Kareo, AdvancedMD, Athenahealth, Medisoft)
- Familiarity with code assignment software
- Strong MS Office skills (especially Excel) for tracking coding metrics
- Detail-oriented with strong accuracy and quality control
- Advanced English proficiency in both written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a remote team
- Adaptability to changing payer policies and healthcare regulations
- Proactive mindset for process improvement and best practices
- Comfortable with remote communication tools (email, chat, video meetings, Teramind)
